Run out of Oil & Now the boiler wont start! If you have let the fuel tank run dry or your oil supplier has not filled the tank. You have had a new fuel delivery the chances are that the boiler burner wont light! The 'lock out' light is on, please only press this button twice. If the burner wont work, then there is an 'air lock' in the fuel pipe and you need Help. Call us in the event of a Boiler breakdown, we will do our very best to help you get warm again.

Did you know that only OFTEC registered engineers can work oil appliances, this is even more true for installations. Would you want to compromise your safety in permitting a non registered person, who is probably not competent, trained or insured to install your oil appliance?
Is your current oil boiler engineer OFTEC registered, next time you need your boiler serviced or repaired, enquire if he or she is OFTEC registered [and if not, Why not?]
If you have a new or replacement Oil boiler installed, you are required by law to get a Building Regulations Certificate, to prove that the appliance was installed by a competent person.
Although not strictly a legal requirement as yet! You must get your oil appliance / boiler serviced regulary by an OFTEC registered engineer. Even more so with the introduction of the Home Information Pack, to show you are and have had the appropriate maintenance to your Oil boiler, this will prove vital if you want to sell your property. When we complete a service, repair or installation, your be provided with All the necessary documents.
OFTEC; who are they?
The Oil Firing Technical & European commission for the petroleum industry was formed in April 1991. OFTEC’s aims are to improve the safely, reliability and performance of oil firing by providing training in the servicing and installation of oil fired systems.

Every one has heard of CORGI, and more recently 'GAS SAFE' for gas installations and repairs.
OFTEC are the equivalent for Oil boiler servicing, installations, repairs and commissioning.
OFTEC operates a registration scheme for those involved in the installation, commissioning and maintenance of oil fired boilers.
 A few reasons why to employ the services of an OFTEC approved technician;
- Are individually trained at an OFTEC approved Training Centre.
- Have their work inspected from time to time by an OFTEC Inspector.
- Are re-assessed every five years to maintain their registration.
- Carry an identity card.
- Have appropriate insurance to work in your home.
- Are able in England and Wales to self-certify work for which they are registered, without the need to contact the building inspectorate or local authority.
- Leave you with a written statement of the work they have done and any recommendations for work needed in the future.
- If you employ a non-registered technician, you run the risk of falling victim to a ‘cowboy operator,’ who is probably not trained and worse of all not insured.
Servicing your boiler
Oil Boiler manufacturers recommend that your appliance is serviced ever twelve months, with Vaporising stoves, serviced every six months. Servicing your boiler not only keeps it functioning correctly, it protects the warranty of boiler and ensures it is working efficiently and economically.

Servicing a Pressure Jet Esse Oil Boiler and a Vapourising AGA
Domestic oil boilers - Service Procedure
 Remove burner from boiler.
- Clean primary air combustion fan and housing.
- Replace burner nozzle or wicks.
- Clean electrodes
- Check flame failure [photocell] operation and safety cut off.
- Replace or clean oil filter/s
- Clean all boiler flue ways up to and including the first flue bend.
- Clean combustion space.
- Refit burner, fire up and test.
- Carry out full combustion test and record results.
- Check fire valves for correct operation.
- Check room ventilation.
- Check all electrical controls I.E. programmer/time switch and thermostats.
- Replace oil tank filter element, if fitted,
- Inspect oil tank.
- Check oil line for leaks.
